The MEng in Structural Engineering covers both the theoretical background and the practical design considerations of Structural Engineering. The content seeks to reflect current and future practice in structural analysis, design, appraisal, experimental techniques, and information technology. It aims to provide the graduate with the advanced conceptual understanding, detailed factual knowledge, and specialist technical skills that are required for success in Structural Engineering. The elective options afford the opportunity for the development of skills and competences in a range of additional and associated disciplines. Following a period of appropriate professional experience, graduates will have the skills and competencies appropriate to achieving full membership of The Institution of Structural Engineers.

Graduates of the programme will have skills, competences and a higher qualification to enhance their employment credentials in the national and international market. This new programme will significantly enhanced employment opportunities for graduates with the trend in recent years in the industry being towards recruitment of specialist Masters level graduates.
Graduates have found are employed with private sector firms such as consulting engineers RPS Group, Arup, MottMacDonald, Cronin & Sutton, Roughan & O’Donovan, Jacon Engineering, ACOM (New Zealand), Hurst & Malcolm (London). A limited number have chosen employment with contracting companies or are operating as sole traders.
