College Info

Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) is a state-funded public university-level higher education institution located in the second city of Ireland, Cork, established in 1973.

 It offers a wide range accredited programmes from level 6 (Certificate) to level 10 (PhD) on the National Framework of Qualifications, and across a wide range of disciplines. It is the largest Institute of Technology outside of Dublin, with around 12,000 registered students with approximately 2,000 new entries every year. Of these approximately 6,000 are full-time and the remaining are part-time.

CIT presently has four separate campuses. The main campus is located in Bishopstown and covers an area of approximately 80 acres. The Crawford College of Art and Design is located at Sharman Crawford Street, Cork. The CIT Cork School of Music is located in a purpose-built state of the art facility located in Union Quay, Cork. The National Maritime College of Ireland which opened in October 2004 is located in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.

CIT Provides a range of services to organisations and individuals to support entrepreneurship, enterprise start-up, research, knowledge exchange and continued professional development.

CIT has long been known as a centre for excellence for engineering education, graduating more accredited engineers than anyone else on the island of Ireland. In addition, it delivers a thriving research programme, with three main centres focused on ICT and Embedded Systems (NIMBUS), Photonics (CAPPA), life sciences and wellbeing (BIOEXPLORE), in addition to a number of other emerging and growing research areas.

Undergraduate Entry

  • Applicants must have achieved suitable grades in the Secondary School Certificate/Secondary Education Examination (Standard XII/Class XII from CBSE, CISC) in order to satisfy the specific academic entry requirements for the selected programme of study.
  • Students who have partially completed a university degree may be considered for advanced entry into a similar CIT undergraduate programme.

 Postgraduate Entry

  • Applicants for Postgraduate Study must hold a Bachelor Degree with a minimum First Division Result from a recognised higher institute of education.
  • Where there is competition for admission, applicants are ranked in order of merit based on academic achievement. An interview may also form part of the selection process depending on the nature of the programme.
