In the world of engineering design, you might be responsible for creating the next new camera phone, innovating a self-driving car — practically anything. The possibilities are endless, and at UAB, you can tailor your major to help you succeed in almost any aspect of engineering design.

So what exactly goes in a degree in engineering design? For one, our program includes a 15-hour engineering design and innovation core as the backbone to your education. It’s a three-course progression in engineering design as well as a two-semester capstone project. Plus we’re going to load your noodle up with all the fundamental math, science, physics, and engineering skills that you’ll need to embark on your career. Finally, you’ll choose an engineering focus for your minor. You can also choose a second minor in another engineering concentration or any one of our approved minors.

• From 2017 to 2018, the UAB School of Engineering had a big increase in research award funding, from $7.5 million to more than $16.7 million — a 122 percent increase over 12 months.
• Students may receive credit toward a master’s degree while earning their engineering design degree through UAB’s fast-track option.
