About Sociology in Troy University

Sociology is the scientific study of human relationships and interaction. If the study of human lives, societal changes and social causes and consequences interest you, then a major in sociology at Troy University is for you. This undergraduate degree offers you the opportunity to study a number of social topics including crime and deviance, social inequality and social institutions such as the criminal justice and health care systems.

During TROY’s coursework in the sociology program, you will learn to critically analyze social issues and develop research skills to study social problems like food insecurity and wage inequality. You will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on learning experiences through our internship program with an opportunity to work in a variety of settings from prisons to mental health agencies. These experiences will allow you to be part of research and public good projects that will enable you to take the skills you learn in the classroom and put them to the test. These experiences provide you valuable learning opportunities that lead to employment and graduate school.

When you graduate with a degree in sociology from Troy University, you will have the analytical skills of research writing and social interaction, along with being able to write questionnaires, conduct interviews and focus groups and analyze data.
