About International Events Management in University of West of Scotland

OVERVIEW

The MSc International Events Management was designed to help the sector's demand for talented, capable practitioners, and prepares you for a successful career in events management at home or abroad. It enables you to develop your practical, strategic and conceptual understanding of the events sector within local, national and international contexts.

As events are increasingly recognised as a tool for stimulating economic development, the industry is quickly professionalising and requires a growing number of graduates to form an educated, critically informed workforce. The MSc in International Events Management is designed to meet this demand by producing critically informed, operationally capable events practitioners.

Professional alignment

UWS's School of Business & Enterprise is a full member of both the Association of Professional Conference Organisers and National Outdoor Events Association. These associations are concerned with developing and enhancing the professional status of conference and event organisers.

COURSE AIMS

The MSc International Events management will help you develop:

  • a critical understanding of the historic, theoretical and conceptual body of knowledge relating to the production, consumption and regulation of international events
  • a critical understanding of the current key political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental issues which inform international events management and to apply such understandings to a wide range of a range of events contexts and settings
  • a critical understanding of the range of practical and operational required to successfully deliver an event or portfolio of events
  • a range of complex analytical skills and abilities, including research skills, in order to critically examine existing practices within the events industry

Career prospects

Graduates are expected to find employment in a range of events roles including business events, festivals and cultural events, global mega-events, sporting events, community events and charity/cause related events. Previous graduates also developed careers in fields related to tourism, marketing and PR.

COURSE DETAILS

To exit with a Postgraduate Diploma you must pass the taught modules. You will most likely continue to work towards an MSc, and will complete relevant modules and a dissertation.

To achieve the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip), your studies will include:

  • Branding People, Places and Spaces (core, 20 credits)
  • Critical Event Studies (core, 20 credits)
  • Creative Research (core, 20 credits)
  • Politics and Policy in Events and Tourism (core, 20 credits)

You will also complete an additional 40 credits from a list of option modules. Suggested module options include:

  • The Future of Events Route (optional, 20 credits)
  • Digital Marketing Practice (optional, 20 credits)
  • Advanced Perspectives in Conference Management (optional, 20 credits)

Successfully completing the PgDip allows you to proceed to the Master's dissertation:

  • Marketing, Events and Tourism Dissertation (core MSc, 60 credits)

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Students must have successfully completed at least one year of undergraduate study with recognized institution.

English language requirements (one of the below):
