Why this course?

Computing is one of the fastest developing subject areas in secondary education. Computing skills are quickly becoming integral to success in the modern world where technology is developing at a rapid rate. The course offers a wide spread of university and school-based learning experiences to ensure students are well equipped to enter the teaching profession.

Teaching computing is becoming as important as English and Mathematics as it's fundamental to modern life. There's an amazing satisfaction in empowering the next generation to cope in a digital environment.

What you'll learn

This course will equip you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you require. The PGDE is modular in structure and students will study three modules across the year:

• Education Studies; Professional Values
• Professional Learning Through Enquiry
• Professional Skills
• Curriculum and Pedagogy
• Professional Practice

PGDE operates a model whereby students attend classes on campus followed by blocks of continued learning on placement. The modules run in parallel and learning and practice is cumulative. 

On-campus time is used to familiarise you with the curriculum, allow you to collaborate with students and begin to plan lessons and develop materials. Students will have the opportunity to teach mini-lessons and explore innovative and motivating ways of engaging children and young people.

Careers

A degree in education will equip you for a range of careers working with children and young people.

Most of our PGDE graduates go on to work as teachers in secondary schools across the country.  

Secondary School Teachers in Scotland use the Curriculum for Excellence framework. They work with their class to develop skills and abilities, and encourage the pupils to expand their knowledge and understanding further.

Academic qualification equivalents

• For entry to Strathclyde postgraduate programmes, we'd look for a first-class undergraduate degree (approx 60%) from a
  recognised Indian institution.

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS    :     6.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
• TOEFL  :    80+ overall,with the following minimum scores in each component: Listening:17 Reading: 18 Speaking:20 Writing:19
• PTE      :     58+ overall, with a minimum of 51 in each component
