Business Enterprise is about the creation of wealth, creativity and resourcefulness and exploiting change.

This course is designed for students who want to start a new enterprise, those who want to take over the management of an existing business and those who are aiming for leadership positions.

The Finance aspect of this degree will give you the skills for a career in financial services such as banking, investment management, pension fund management, and insurance as well as a wide range of business organisations. It will also be invaluable in helping you make personal financial decisions.

This programme will allow you to develop an awareness of academic and practitioner perspectives and apply them in real-life settings. It will also give you the real-world skills that are highly valued in a competitive employment market.

Course content

The Management Development Programme (MDP) is a core element of the undergraduate degree programme in the Strathclyde Business School.

The programme runs for the first three years of the BA degree. The entire class is driven by real business problems. The approach to learning is active problem-based, with students working in project teams.

The class aims to encourage integration of the knowledge and experience gained in Principal Subjects. Each year of the MDP focuses on different aspects of business and the content of MDP is constantly evolving and being updated and enhanced.

Careers

Graduates specialising in Business Enterprise develop the skills to set up their own business and the entrepreneurial mindset and business skills required by organisations.

You’ll have the potential to work in financial services, retail, consultancy and manufacturing with job titles such as analyst, business development manager and project manager.

Graduates who specialise in Finance find employment in retail and investment banks, insurance, accountancy, public sector and business services as financial analysts, accountants and management trainees.

The course is also useful for those considering a more general business career. Some graduates will continue studying while in employment to gain relevant professional qualifications.

Academic qualification equivalents

• For entry to Strathclyde undergraduate programmes we'd look for 70-75% in all subjects taken at level XII and the same at level X. 

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS   :    6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
• TOEFL :     73-79 overall, with the following minimum scores in each component: Listening: 17 Reading: 18 Speaking: 20                               Writing: 19
• PTE      :     54-57 overall, with a minimum of 51 in each component
