Business Enterprise is about the creation of wealth, creativity and resourcefulness and exploiting change. This course is designed for students who want to start a new enterprise, those who want to take over the management of an existing business and those who are aiming for leadership positions.

Studying Hospitality & Tourism Management will prepare you for leadership roles in a dynamic industry which generates £5 billion to the Scottish economy and creates one in 10 jobs. You’ll have the skills to manage operations and business across a range of industries including hospitality, tourism and events.

On graduating, you could apply for membership of professional bodies such as the Institute of Hospitality, the Institute of Travel & Tourism, Tourism Society or the Royal Geographical Society.

Course content

The Management Development Programme (MDP) is a core element of the undergraduate degree programme in the Strathclyde Business School.

The programme runs for the first three years of the BA degree. The entire class is driven by real business problems. The approach to learning is active problem-based, with students working in project teams.

The class aims to encourage integration of the knowledge and experience gained in Principal Subjects. Each year of the MDP focuses on different aspects of business and the content of MDP is constantly evolving and being updated and enhanced.

Graduates specialising in Business Enterprise develop the skills to set up their own business and the entrepreneurial mindset and business skills required by organisations.

You’ll have the potential to work in financial services, retail, consultancy and manufacturing with job titles such as:

• Analyst
• Business Development Manager
• Project Manager

Graduates who specialise in Hospitality & Tourism Management have a combination of practical and business skills.

Our graduates find jobs into the hotel industry and the service sector with job titles such as:

• Manager
• Restaurant Supervisor
• Trainee Accountant

Academic qualification equivalents

• For entry to Strathclyde undergraduate programmes we'd look for 70-75% in all subjects taken at level XII and the same at level X. 

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS   :    6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
• TOEFL :     73-79 overall, with the following minimum scores in each component: Listening: 17 Reading: 18 Speaking: 20                               Writing: 19
• PTE      :     54-57 overall, with a minimum of 51 in each component
