This MSc Psychological Research Methods (Bilingualism Research) will provide you with a detailed theoretical background in bilingualism and bring you up to date with the latest research on the subject.
The MSc Bilingualism Research gives students a thorough understanding of personal and societal consequences of speaking more than one language throughout the
life span. For example, we will look at the consequences of learning two languages at the same time in early childhood, how languages are represented in the brain and kept separate during conversation, and how lifelong bilingualism can influence the onset of dementia.
The core module addresses theoretical and practical issues of the different domains of bilingualism in interactive seminars, which will bring students up to date with the latest in bilingualism research. You’ll gain the confidence to verbalise arguments for and against expert opinion and experimental findings, and you’ll design an experiment to address a relevant research question.
Your advanced research will be carried out in an area of bilingualism and advise on bilingualism matters, such as second language provision in schools.
You’ll be based in a dedicated MSc office, or within an appropriate research group, and allocated a peer mentor. An academic supervisor in psychology will support and guides your development, including the research dissertation project. We’re here to encourage you to make the transition to becoming a fully independent research scientist.
