About Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA in University of Liverpool

This unique Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA is the only masters-level qualification in the world to be delivered through an exclusive partnership with British Horseracing Authority, the Horserace Betting Levy Board and The Racing Foundation.

 The programme combines the Management School’s expertise in sports industry management, with the specialist equine knowledge of the University’s School of Veterinary Science. As an MBA programme it has the real business focus that management positions in modern horseracing demand. This is based on links with key sectors of the industry — from racecourses, horseracing governance and administration, trainers, owners and breeders, to the gambling industry and the media.

The programme supports both those working in the horse racing and associated industries, and prospective career-changers, to develop their management and leadership skills. It is delivered through a combination of face-to-face and online teaching, which allows participants to remain in full-time employment.

The core elements of the programme—leadership, strategy, organisations, marketing and managing financial resources—are delivered online.

The specialist modules apply business concepts to modern horseracing. You’ll gain a critical awareness of issues in the management of racecourses and training establishments, marketing, advertising, sponsorship, bloodstock management and relevant veterinary issues. These will be delivered in concentrated blocks in Liverpool, London and Newmarket.

Practical learning opportunities include visits to racecourses, studs, training facilities and media companies. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on real projects for sponsoring organisations through work based projects.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university with minimum first division (high second division from some universities).

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS:  6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
• TOEFL iBT: 88 overall with 20-Listening, Writing, Reading, 22-Speaking.
• PTE:  62 with minimum scores of 51 in each component.
