Films have been vital cultural outputs for over one hundred years. The context in which they are produced and distributed is constantly changing but their importance as documents of our times remains, as does the pleasure they give to audiences across the world and their potential influence on the way those audiences may see the world.

Combining Film Studies with Philosophy gives you the opportunity to add to your Film Studies major with a subject that engages with some of the biggest and hardest questions with which humanity has ever grappled.
 

Programme in detail

Film Studies with Philosophy at Liverpool offers you the chance to study with recognised scholars of film cultures and industries around the world, offering a wide-ranging and sophisticated academic programme in this critical field. Our students have an interest in world cultures and a desire to fully appreciate the ways in which these cultures have expressed themselves through film.

Your minor in Philosophy gives you the opportunity to take two Philosophy modules each year, one in each semester. In every year you may select the most appropriate modules from a wide choice, dealing with philosophical questions (such as Theory of knowledge or Popular language), or discussing particular philosophers or philosophical movements, such as existentialism or Indian philosophy (Reading and writing philosophy and the Dissertation module are not available).

Academic qualification equivalents

• Successful completion of examinations at standard X and XII (Higher Secondary School Certificate) with minimum marks of approximately 70 to 85%, according to the course and exam board.

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS: A  minimum of IELTS band 6.0–7.0, with no component below 5.5.
• TOEFL iBT: 78-88 overall with 19-Listening, Writing, Reading, 21-Speaking.
• PTE:  55-62 with minimum score of 51 in any component
