If you have ambitions for starting and running your own business with the support of our ‘start-up’ specialists, then the Business and Management (Entrepreneurship and Innovation) specialist course is for you.
To start and grow your own successful business, it is important to gain a universal understanding of business and management functions and develop a range of transferable skills. Traditional approaches to business are being disrupted by rapidly changing factors such as emerging technologies, climate change and socio-political shifts in consumer preferences. You need to be able to think creatively and be committed to succeeding even if your initial ideas for start-ups fail.
In your first year, you will study the theory of enterprise and innovation, building a foundation of knowledge and relevant skills, competencies, and behaviours to start your journey as an entrepreneur. In your second year, you will discover what it means to be enterprising, as well as gain insights from entrepreneurs. You will develop the functional skills necessary for the creation and sustainability of a new business venture. In your final year, you will continue your journey as a nascent entrepreneur. Entrepreneurial practice is a multidimensional concept and a mindset. You will further develop your understanding of the scope of entrepreneurship, considering social entrepreneurship, community enterprises, new value creation in business start-ups, new ventures, incubation, and commercialisation. There are opportunities to gain funding through enterprise competitions and ‘Start and Grow’.
Whilst you will specialise in entrepreneurship and innovation with a view to starting your own business, you will gain universal knowledge and skills for a career in business and Management. The course is accredited to the Chartered Management Institute and you will gain a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management as part of your course.
