One of only a few courses in London that’s accredited by six accountancy bodies, the course provides exam exemptions from ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, AIA, CPA Australia and IFA (provided you select the appropriate option modules) and will fast-track you on a path to becoming a qualified accountant. The qualification will open up a career in virtually any business or organisation in the private, public or voluntary sectors.
It will also enable you to gain employment in the financial services industry because it provides a thorough overview of financial markets, financial reporting requirements and the regulatory framework of accounting. You’ll receive a solid grounding in core accounting disciplines and the course has a strong emphasis on preparing you directly for the world of work.
Your future career
A UEL degree in accounting and finance will leave you in an excellent position to gain work in a variety of business sectors.
Some students choose to continue their studies with a relevant postgraduate degree, such as the MSc International Accounting & Finance, MSc Professional Accounting, MSc Financial Management or MSc Risk Management. Please note that we also offer an integrated Master's version of this course - MAccFin (Hons) Accounting and Finance
Others obtain employment and go on to achieve their ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, CPA Australia, IFA or AIA qualifications while working.
The kind of roles that you can expect to be open to you after graduation include:
• Financial accountant
• Management accountant
• Budget controller
• Tax advisor
• Internal or external auditor.
In addition to large accounting and consultancy firms, other financial services institutions such as banks, building societies and insurance companies are in the market for well-qualified, ambitious accounting and finance graduates.
This degree will also leave your well placed to find employment in any other commercial sector, from retail and manufacturing to pharmaceuticals and utilities. You could also work for a charity or in the public sector.
If you’d like to start your own business, you can make use of our Knowledge Dock business incubation space, providing office accommodation, IT and access to business advisers and mentors.
Whatever path you take, our Careers and Student Employability team will provide practical help – and you can use their services even after you’ve graduated.
We also run a dedicated employability programme for business and law students, called Employ. It includes employability workshops, skills training sessions, guest speaker events, voluntary work, student ambassador roles and work experience opportunities.
