This lab-based degree focuses on enhancing your understanding of the control mechanism underlying energy metabolism as well as the function of the heart and circulation and how this can lead to disease. You'll learn about current treatments, recent clinical trials and how large cohort genetic studies can be used to impact treatment. You'll also develop skills in study design, scientific methodology and communication, and gain a critical awareness of current research questions in the field.

Dundee is renowned for translational medical research which has real-world clinical impact. You'll be exposed to research from the fundamental level right up to large population studies, and gain an understanding of how our research shapes our understanding of metabolic diseases.

Career

The skills and knowledge you'll gain on this course will be useful if you are considering pursuing a career in cardiovascular or diabetes medicine post-graduation. You will also gain extra points for academic achievement that could help with applications to foundation training after you graduate from your MBChB or equivalent.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Students must have good results (60% overall) in the CBSE, ISC or leading state board XII Standard exams.

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS: The requirement for most undergraduate and postgraduate degrees is IELTS 6.5 overall with a 6.0 in writing and 6.0/5.5 minimum in the other three components.
• TOEFL (iBT): 88 overall, including at least 21 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 20 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.
• PTE: 62 overall, including at least 56 in all four skills
