Facilities Managers co-ordinate all the services within a building, from its construction to ICT systems, workspaces and energy efficiency. Our degree has been restructured to keep pace with a changing and progressive industry, and to meet the new demands this places on the Facilities Manager as they take responsibility for a broader spectrum of sustainable facilities.

• You will study alongside students on the construction project management, quantity surveying and building surveying degrees, allowing you to share knowledge and the opportunity to transfer if you wish to.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT

A 3 year degree qualification typically comprises 360 credits and each 20 credit (a standard module) equates to 200 hours of study, which comprises of a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and independent study. Independent study is an important aspect of your degree course. The exact combination of study time will be detailed within your module descriptors, and will depend on your option choices.

You’ll be able to undertake a week-long surveying workshop in the first year/second year if on Foundation entry. Most modules are lecture-based but computing facilities are made available when necessary to learn how to use AutoCAD and Microsoft Project.

Most modules are assessed by examinations/coursework; the final mark being the average of the two. Exceptions are modules best assessed by coursework only. This could be group projects, modelling exercises or time-controlled assignments.

PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION

The course is fully accredited by The Chartered Institute of Building, giving exemption from the Institute’s membership examinations. Chartered Builder status (MCIOB) can be expected within three years of suitable postgraduate experience.

This course is fully accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Taking an RICS accredited degree is the first step to becoming a chartered surveyor. Studying on an accredited degree will be recognised by employers as the benchmark of quality.
