LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT

A 3 year degree qualification typically comprises 360 credits and each 20 credit (a standard module) equates to 200 hours of study, which comprises of a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and independent study. Independent study is an important aspect of your degree course. The exact combination of study time will be detailed within your module descriptors, and will depend on your option choices.

You can benefit from industrial sponsorship. Typically you would be working full-time in a junior engineering position at a local company while studying part-time.

A variety of teaching and learning methods is used, including traditional lectures, laboratory-based sessions using specialist facilities, computer sessions and simulations, tutorials, design exercises and directed study. The practical facilities are located in a purpose-built building with impressive computer facilities and dedicated laboratories.

Assessment uses formal examinations and coursework. The balance of assessment varies from module to module; a typical breakdown over the full course is in the range 60%-70% examination, 30%-40% coursework, exclusive of major individual project work.
