The construction industry is highly competitive and graduates require a range of skills to demonstrate they have the ability to thrive in the workplace. A course module (Professional Practice), which you will study as part of your degree programme, will provide you with the skills that employers are looking for in graduates. The majority of graduates are working in construction as construction managers and project managers. Other graduates have gone on to postgraduate study to gain an MSc in Construction Project Management.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT
A 3 year degree qualification typically comprises 360 credits and each 20 credit (a standard module) equates to 200 hours of study, which comprises of a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and independent study. Independent study is an important aspect of your degree course. The exact combination of study time will be detailed within your module descriptors, and will depend on your option choices.
A week-long surveying workshop will be undertaken. Most modules are lecture-based but computing facilities are made available when necessary to learn how to use AutoCAD and Microsoft Project.
Most assessments are examination and coursework; the final mark being the average of the two. Exceptions are the modules best assessed by coursework only. This could be group projects, modelling exercises or time-controlled assignments.
