About Animation, BA (hons) in University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)

Our award-winning Animation degree covers stop motion, 2D animation and 3D digital animation that will help you develop the practical skills and technical expertise you need to create your own film by the end of the course. You will be encouraged to express your own creativity and ideas and thanks to our close links with employers, there’s the chance to work on ‘live’ projects from industry so that you know your skills are relevant – taught by industry professionals who all currently work in their specialist areas will guide you to create a professional body of work that puts you in line with industry demand for which UCLan is one of only few institutions in the country to have a tailor-made programme that suites you.

• UCLan Animation students have been North West Royal Television Society Student Award winners for the ninth year running collecting eight awards.
• The University is one of only four institutions in the country to provide Skillset funded training for professional animators in CelAction software.
• Through working on live client briefs for organisations such as the NHS and Preston City Council, you will gain vital employability skills.

Our BA (Hons) Animation degree is a unique course designed to help you create animated characters and narrative that not only capture the imagination of an audience but have an awareness of the social and cultural place within that art form. This distinctive course is rooted in creative thinking and self-expression accompanied by a good technical knowledge of current industry practices, including script writing, character design, storyboarding, animating, editing and sound design.

Animation at UCLan enjoys an excellent reputation and, for the past six years, our students have been winners of Royal Television Society regional prizes.  By working on ‘live’ client briefs for organisations such as the NHS and Preston City Council, you will gain vital employ-ability skills such as knowledge of how to work with a client and overcoming hurdles met by professional animators. Animation is flourishing due to government support and, thanks to UCLan’s close proximity to MediaCityUK, there’s no better place to study animation.
