About Augmented And Virtual Realities in Staffordshire University

Our BA (Hons) Augmented and Virtual Realities degree is a new course that specialises in design, including the development of worlds and 3D assets for a range of interactive and immersive experiences.

You will work on assignments to develop virtual and augmented realities. Our bespoke training will provide you with not only a strong foundation, but also a knowledge base of the entire production pipeline. This will allow you to understand all design and technical processes involved in the creation of ultimate immersive experiences and hyperrealities.

In addition, we have strong industry links with companies such as Sony Entertainment, Epic Games, award-winning visual effects company The Mill, and architecture practice Foster + Partners. There are opportunities for live briefs and internships. You’ll also have the chance to attend a number of industry conferences, such as FMX and ITFS in Germany and VFX Festival in London.

Throughout your first year, you will learn the required skills that are needed to create immersive virtual reality experiences. You will gain experience with Unreal Engine, 3D modelling and texturing. Our assignments will challenge your creativity and you will learn principles behind visual design for virtual reality.

In the second year, you will expand your knowledge base via technical demonstrations and the Vicon motion capture suite. You will learn how to use digital cameras to scan and create 3D models from real objects and will get to create realistic architecture visualisations.

In your final year, you will work on your portfolio. With help from experienced lecturers, you will specialise in your chosen discipline through further research. We host lectures and CV workshops to help you find your first job and to prepare you for future interviews. You will also participate in group projects with other students and work collaboratively on the hyperreality project.
