About BA (hons) Linguistics And Media in Nottingham Trent University
These two dynamic subjects will help you to develop an in-depth knowledge of the media industry, while also learning about the nature of language.
This degree enables you to shape your study according to your strengths, interests and career ambitions. Combining these two subjects gives your degree an international and industry perspective that will make you stand out in the graduate employment market.
Our course combinations are designed so that what you learn in one subject will complement and enhance what you learn in the other. In your final year you can choose either to split your time evenly between your two subjects, or to specialise in one.
Linguistics and Media are two subjects that have a natural synergy. The in-depth knowledge and understanding of language and its social functions you’ll gain from your Linguistics modules can enhance and directly influence the way you approach your Media interests.

Because you’ll develop such a wide range of skills and knowledge, your career options are really broad. In addition to the course content, you’ll develop key transferable skills including written and oral communication, critical analysis and a variety of IT skills. Plus you’ll become more self-motivated, be able to work independently and in teams, and develop excellent time management skills.
Recent Media graduates have gone on to work in graduate-level positions with the BBC; Sky; Brit Asia TV; Channel 5; and IBM.
Many graduates also choose to undertake further study on one of our Masters-level courses or MPhil and PhD research degrees.

Nottingham Trent University Admission Procedure
- Application: The UG applications are accepted through ‘Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)’ and PG applications through the ‘NTU applicant portal’.
- Application fee: One needs to pay £13 for 1 UG course and £24 for multiple UG courses.
- Application deadlines: For UG students the last date to apply is June 30, 2019. The PG programs don’t have any official deadline, however, it is better to apply one month prior to course start date.
- General requirements: Completed application form, academic transcripts, and English proficiency tests.
- Additional requirements: Birth certificate, passport copy, LOR.
English Proficiency Test: Majority of the courses require IELTS score ranging between 6.0 and 6.0 for entry. However, other equivalent English test scores are also acceptable.
