There are few better places to develop your readiness for a career in sport than the Etihad Campus. This course offers work-based learning in Premier League surroundings, equipping you with the skills, knowledge and experience you will need to find success as a coach or sports programme leade

Academic experts deliver the programme, providing insight and support during your three years. In addition, you are continually mentored and supported by practitioners from City in the Community who provide perspectives from the real world of delivering community sport coaching and sport development initiatives.

You will learn how coaching sport improves aspects of mental and physical health. The programme will cover all aspects of project development – from planning and delivering activity, through to measuring impact – to help understand the potential of sporting opportunities to make a positive difference in the community.   

Features and Benefits

• Delivered in partnership with Manchester City F.C.’s City in the Community Foundation, this programme has been designed to build knowledge in a broad range of areas, from coaching practice and sport performance analysis to sociology and sport development.
• Taught at the Etihad Campus, home to MCFC and City Football Academy. More than 450 players train on site every week in the Academy, from under 6s to the first team.
• A core strand of this programme of study is its work-based learning activities. Students will undertake work experience with Manchester City F.C.'s City in the Community Foundation across all three years of study, which will equip them with an array of employability skills and attributes.
• We are investing heavily in sports facilities in Manchester at our John Dalton building, Platt Lane Sports Complex and Sugden Sports Centre.
• Students will be taught by highly experienced academics from the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences and will also be mentored and supported by sport coaching practitioners from Manchester City F.C.'s City in the Community Foundation.
• This programme will provide students with the opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge and experience to find success in community sport coaching and beyond.

There are various career paths for graduates of this discipline within sport governing bodies, clubs, organisations, schools, research centres, academic institutions, as well as hospitals and medical centres specialising in health, fitness and rehabilitation.

The work-based learning you will undertake as part of this sport coaching programme will give you the opportunity to try out different future career paths, gain expertise and experience in a particular role within the organisation, and apply academic subject knowledge in a real work setting. We feel this is important to ensure that students graduate with a genuine understanding of the role of community football in context, whilst also gaining a sound knowledge of the requirements of the specific job opportunities within community sport coaching.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII with good grade.

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS     :   6.0, with no component below 5.5
• TOEFL   :   Overall 79,  With no individual test score below:Listening: 17,Reading: 18,Speaking: 20,Writing : 17
• PTE        :   53, with no less than 51 in any section
