Course Details
Today’s educators face constant change and challenges – this course will help you to gain an informed and critical perspective on professional practices, allowing you to enhance your expertise as a coach and mentor, build on your teaching and leadership skills, and foster collaborative working across schools, colleges and universities.
You will investigate how coaches and mentors develop evidence-informed practice and you will engage in self-study to build your capacity to act as a coach and mentor. Exploring the pressures and opportunities that exist in contemporary education, you will examine your own practice and identify the next steps in developing your coaching and mentoring skills to support others.
By reflecting on your own work and through shared practice with tutors and peers, you will acquire new insights, learn to use skilful questioning, enhance your listening ability and advance your rapport building, which will ultimately help to nurture trust between you and your student.
Through learning new skills and developing better practices, you will have the ability to influence the practice of others and improve the learning experience for your students.
Course Benefits
You will join CollectivED – a new hub for mentoring and coaching, based within the Carnegie School of Education. Working with staff, such as Professor of Teacher Education, Rachel Lofthouse, peers, and partners from around the UK, you will have the opportunity to help shape future practice and co-create knowledge to positively influence educational policy at an institutional and national level.
