About Child & Adolescent Mental Health Msc in Kings College London

Explore child development, boost your research skills and learn to diagnose psychiatric disorders in children and young people. At King’s College London, you’ll be taught by leaders in the field and develop your skills through hands-on clinical placements. 

We’ve designed this course for international and UK-based psychiatrists, paediatricians and psychologists. But it’s also helpful for other professionals working with children such as nurses, social workers and teachers.

Description

Whether you’re relatively new to the field or already have years of experience, this course advances your knowledge and research skills in child development, therapeutic interventions and service models. 

You’ll explore issues relating to child development, causes of child and adolescent disorders, and psychological and physical treatments for emotional, behavioural and developmental disorders.  

To put your skills into action, you’ll complete a placement within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. One of the key areas the Trust focuses on is supporting people who experience mental health problems early on in life.   

We’ll also help you understand how to make an impact to mental health services through research. Using either quantitative or qualitative methodologies, you’ll explore an area of the field that really interests you and explain how your findings can be applied to practice.  

Career prospects

Armed with an internationally recognised qualification, many of our graduates return to clinical practice where they apply their understanding of child mental health to their career. 

Other students use this MSc as a stepping stone to further training or a PhD.

Academic qualification equivalents

• A baccalaureate degree from a recognized degree granting institution

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS   :    6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each skill
• TOEFL :    92 overall with a minimum of 23 in writing and 20 in each of the other skills
• PTE      :    62 overall with a minimum of 59 in each communicative skill
