Overview
With a focus on cross-cutting themes of equity, sustainability, human rights, transdisciplinary working and social justice, this course has been designed to provide advanced knowledge about global health challenges and innovations and has a focus on the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Students will examine health and wellbeing from local, national and global perspectives, drawing upon theory, research and practice to help develop the essential skills to be able to work with diverse global communities everywhere.
The course attracts graduates with an interest in, or already working in, global health. This includes those working in governmental health institutions, intergovernmental health institutions, health and social care settings, charities, non-governmental organisations and other relevant settings.
Students will undertake a range of modules including: Introduction to Global Health, Critical Issues in Global Health, Global Health skills, Researching Global Health and Global Health Dissertation. Students can also opt to undertake work-based learning, if they wish, to enable them to further develop their skills. The course will be delivered by staff with expertise from a range of backgrounds including both practice and research.
Key features
A 2.2 honours degree or equivalent. Relevant degrees include, but are not confined to, the following: social sciences, behavioural science, nursing, geography, public health, allied health and health sciences.
Applications are welcome from mature candidates and those with relevant work experience and evidence of prior learning who do not meet the minimum entry requirements. Each application will be judged on its merits.
Applicants should show a clear interest in the course with a strong commitment to working in the broad field of Global Health as demonstrated within your personal statement.
If you are going to choose to be involved in volunteering opportunities during the course, you may need to complete a declaration form and enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) application form (if you are overseas you may also need to submit a Criminal Records Certificate from your home country).
International students
If English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each band, or equivalent when you start the course is essential. English Language tuition, delivered by our British Council accredited Centre for English Language Learning, is available both before and throughout the course if you need it.
