Course information
This MA course is designed to develop an advanced knowledge of the principles, application and practices of professional interior architecture and design – encouraging you to come up with original, creative solutions to challenging design problems.
We cover a wide scope of your potential field of work –the scale of which is expressed in the axiom SMLXL, which stands for Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. You should learn to develop and design identities for a variety of spatial environments in the specific areas of SMLXL, considering the scale of the environment. This ranges from interior objects to large public spaces, small spaces such as coffee shops to large scale interiors such as airports.
There is a strong focus on interdisciplinary integration, professional enhancement and design enquiry – students from different disciplines may work together in teams, charrettes and industry competitions.
The course recruits nationally and internationally, from countries such as France, China, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Hong Kong, Indonesia. Cultural diversity is a theme throughout the course. Discussions, seminars, collaborations and social events allow students to network, work together inside and outside the curriculum.
Career prospects
Our focused SMLXL approach on spatial practice and broad range of design aims to equip you with the creative skills and professional competencies to work within your chosen specialist discipline in design practices, architectural firms or pursue a range of careers – in marketing, advertising, journalism, virtual design and modelling.
