About Electrical And Electronic Engineering Msc in Coventry University

Electrical and electronics engineers perform a critical role in today’s modern world, advancing the technology in our homes and businesses – from heat, light and power to telecommunications and transport.

Accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), this course partially meets the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer (Further Learning) with the Engineering Council. You will have the opportunity to develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge in a range of electronics fields, including digital systems, image and signal processing, robotics and sensors, together with electrical systems such as renewable energy, smart grids, embedded microcontrollers, electrical machines and power generation.

You’ll have access to state-of-the-art facilities, placement opportunities at companies which have previously included the National Grid, GlaxoSmithKline, Severn Trent Water and Mercedes Benz, as well as an annual programme of inspiring lectures on contemporary engineering and computing topics presented by the IET and British Computer Society (BCS).

Why Coventry University?

An award-winning university, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible experience. We continue to invest in both our facilities and our innovative approach to education. Our students benefit from industry-relevant teaching, and resources and support designed to help them succeed. These range from our modern library and computing facilities to dedicated careers advice and our impressive Students’ Union activities.

Course information

This course offers a programme of study in which course content ranges from fundamentals of electrical and electronic engineering through to contemporary developments in electrical and electronic systems engineering.

It provides a balanced curriculum where you will learn a variety of programming languages and skills that will aid you after graduation. You also have the option of studying either ‘Digital Communications’ or ‘Measurement and sensor Technology’ as the optional module available to you.

Career prospects

The course has a number of features designed to make you more attractive to employers and help you to obtain a good graduate-level job, which helped three-quarters of our graduates find work or continue their studies within six months of graduation (DLHE 2014/15).

Not only is the technical content regularly reviewed to reflect what is currently important and in-demand in the electrical and electronic engineering industry, but we also ensure that the capabilities and skills that the sector regularly asks for are well addressed.

Engineering remains one of the most in-demand jobs in the UK, with opportunities throughout the world for highly trained professionals. Highly trained engineers are needed to specify and design such systems and devise electronic engineering solutions for future challenges – such as electric transportation, renewable energy generation, robot systems and medical diagnostics.

The specialist topics studied on the programme aim to prepare you for a wider range of roles in related industries that rely on the technology. Possible destinations include: electrical power supply generation and distribution including renewables; transport and industrial equipment manufacturers employing electrical drives; electrical vehicles are anticipated to create an increased demand in this area; industrial measurement and monitoring systems; robotics and associated activities; and microelectronic applications.

When you are ready to find permanent employment, you will also receive support from our award-winning Faculty careers service, EEC Futures, which won the ‘Best Placement Service in the UK’ award at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards in 2015 and 2016. Opportunities also exist to complete a PhD research degree upon completion of the master’s course.

Coventry University is committed to preparing you for your future career and giving you a competitive edge in the graduate job market. The University’s Careers and Employability team provide a wide range of support services to help you plan and prepare for your career.

The normal entry route to the course will be through an honours degree in electrical and/or electronic engineering or a related subject area. Applicants offering equivalent professional qualifications and experience will be considered on merit.

English as a Foreign Language: This course requires IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5. Pre-sessional English is available if required.

Our International Student Hub offers information on entry requirements for your country, as well as contact details for agents and representatives should you need more advice.
