About Building Surveying Bsc (hons) in Coventry University

Problem-solving on a grand scale; a Building Surveying degree can teach you to offer much sought-after advice on property and construction.
The world’s rising population has led to a massive shortfall in infrastructure with $57 trillion needed by 2030, according to global management consultancy McKinsey. With a growing demand for the specialist skills to undertake the full range of work from new build and refurbishment to defect analysis, adaptation and energy audits, building surveying is one of the most exciting areas of the property and construction industry.

Ranked as the 7th best university in the country for ‘Building and Town and Country Planning’ in the Guardian University Guide 2019, Coventry has been educating building professionals for over half a century, keeping in step with the changing needs of technological advancement and the growing importance of its social and environmental responsibilities.

This course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the world's leading professional body for qualifications and standards in land, property, infrastructure and construction. On graduation, your degree will help you work towards full professional chartered status wherever in the world you choose.

Why Coventry University?

An award-winning university, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible experience. We continue to invest in both our facilities and our innovative approach to education. Our students benefit from industry-relevant teaching, and resources and support designed to help them succeed. These range from our modern library and computing facilities to dedicated careers advice and our impressive Students’ Union activities.

Course information

With feedback from our industry partners, the course content has evolved over many years and will continue to be updated to reflect the changing structure of the construction industry, so that we can provide you with the skills and expertise needed to meet future challenges, as well as take advantage of current thinking and best practice.

Career prospects

Surveyors play a pivotal role in the delivery of every construction project; career prospects exist wherever new buildings are being contemplated, existing buildings are being refurbished or where building work requires professional control. With a shortage of suitably skilled individuals, employment prospects are excellent.

Most of our graduates are intent on pursuing careers in a building surveying role and gaining chartered status, however, building surveyors benefit from transferrable skills suitable for roles such as a facilities manager, project manager or building conservationist.

When you are ready to find permanent employment, you will also receive support from our award-winning Faculty careers service, EEC Futures, which won the ‘Best Placement Service in the UK’ award at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards in 2015 and 2016

Coventry University is committed to preparing you for your future career and giving you a competitive edge in the graduate job market. The University’s Careers and Employability team provide a wide range of support services to help you plan and prepare for your career.

Where our graduates work

Recent graduates have found employment with companies such as Malcolm Hollis Partnership, Watts, Bailey Garner, Davis Langdon and BAM Construction.
