Course Content
This degree provides the opportunity for sharing modules with Media, Creative Writing and English Literature. At each level, there will be a subject specific strand, a field strand (this will include employability focused opportunities via collaborative projects, certification, and work related placements) and a theory strand which will bring expertise from across the wider teaching team.
The first year of your degree introduces you to concepts of community and identity which will inform your approach to devised performance aimed at specific communities. Alongside this you will study Theatre Practice and Theatre Practitioners exploring theatrical genre, conventions and innovative approaches through theoretical and practical approaches. The position and significance of theatre as a mirror to society will be explored through the study of plays and performance from Ancient Greece through to 21st century practice. You will consider the study of drama through a range of critical perspectives and consider the religious, social and cultural influences on plays and performance approaches.
In your second year you will explore theatre for and with communities through applied theatre workshops and projects. You will be able to work in a small ensemble developing directing and performance techniques and consider the application of these techniques through an entrepreneurship or placement module.
