The BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy programme is a collaborative programme run by the University of Greenwich and Canterbury Christ Church University. If you enjoy communicating with others, and love to learn by doing in a supportive and dynamic environment, this course is for you.
You will study subjects drawn from a variety of disciplines such as psychology, linguistics and phonetics, anatomy and physiology in addition to speech and language therapy practice frameworks. You will also study reflective practice, evidence-based research skills and research methodologies, and how these are applied in the practice setting to create and develop professional knowledge. You will also consider the biopsychosocial and spiritual needs of the client. The integration of theory and practice will be central to the curriculum and there will be three periods of placement across the three years, enabling you to gain practice-based skills alongside experienced speech and language therapists.
The curriculum is responsive to changing national and local requirements through close liaison both with speech and language therapists in practice, and also with statutory, regulatory and professional bodies to ensure that what is being taught is relevant and current to the changing professional landscape, and to promote academic progression and employability.

What will i study?
Throughout your time on the BSc (Hons) SLT programme you will study a number of subjects vital for a 21st century SLT, such as reflective practice, anatomy and physiology, linguistics and phonetics, psychology, sociology and disorders of communication and swallowing across the lifespan, and have opportunities for learning how to work in an interprofessional and multi-agency context and within a changing workforce.
During your training with us, our expert lecturers - and service user and clinician guest lecturers - will guide you to be an autonomous and accountable practitioner. You will develop competence and confidence alongside evidence-based knowledge and profession-specific skills.
You will develop a range of clinical skills to employ in practice contexts and by the end of your studies you will have a critical understanding of communication and other disorders relevant to Speech and Language Therapy, and the holistic management of these.
Practice placements will be arranged for you to experience a number of settings where you might work as a speech and language therapist. This could be anything from a hospital ward and outpatient department, to mainstream and special schools, day centres, clients' homes, and even courtrooms, prisons and young offenders' institutions.
Our programme will put people with communication difficulties at the centre of your learning. You will have the opportunity to be taught directly by people with communication difficulties, for example about the impact of a stroke or cancer.
