The MA in Arts and Cultural Management programme is for artists/practitioners and project managers who wish to develop further knowledge, skills and understanding as confident leaders and managers in the arts.
Why Arts and Cultural Management?
The programme will develop your conceptual and critical skills, which will allow you to engage with arts and management in an insightful way. The curriculum is designed to allow you to pursue opportunities within specialist fields of study, including a placement and undertaking an extensive independent project or dissertation of your choosing.
You will gain understanding of organisations, managerial techniques and arts practices in the current arts and cultural landscape in the UK.
You will have a placement that will enable you to develop greater self-awareness, professionalism and apply practical and organisational project management skills.
Who is this course for?
The MA in Arts and Cultural Management programme is for artists/practitioners and project managers who wish to develop further knowledge, skills and understanding as confident practitioners/artists, leaders and managers in the arts.
Learning and Teaching?
You will be taught through seminars, workshops and a practical placement. A number of guest speakers/artists/managers will share their experiences and strategies.
The tutor team have a wealth of academic (Reader and Lecturer level) and industry experience too (e.g. business, freelance, commissioned, high esteem, leaders).
There is integration between theory and practice. The ability to gather, synthesise, process and present information/ideas/events/projects in a coherent, articulate manner are the main foci for both practical and written assignments at Masters level.
You will be encouraged to develop project proposals, business plans, marketing material and performance projects/events. The full time programme runs on two days a week (at the moment a Wednesday and Thursday). Commitments will depend on which optional modules are chosen in trimester 2. Students can expect approximately 10-12 hours a week contact in trimester 1 through modules and tutorials. There will be a greater commitment in trimester 2 due to placement and in trimester 3 is predominantly 1-1 supervision for Dissertation/Project and Reflection on Placement modules. Part time students do their Masters across two years and do their placement modules and dissertation in year 2.
