About Marine Biology And Oceanography Bsc (hons) in Bangor University

This single honours degree, taught predominantly within the School of Ocean Sciences, provides an in-depth study of the important processes in the oceans, shelf seas and estuaries. The course combines detailed study of life in the sea, from the smallest bacteria to the largest mammals, with a specialised understanding of their physical and chemical environments: the currents, tides and waves, and the biogeochemical interactions within the atmosphere, ocean and sea floor. 

There is also a 4-year MSci option available. In Year 4 you will carry out a substantial piece of research which forms your Year 4 dissertation.

The course is ideal preparation for careers in research, marine resource management, environmental impact assessment, water supply and offshore industries, coastal authorities, government advisory bodies, the scientific media, ecotourism and other leisure industries and pressure groups.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Minimum of 65% in Standard XII school certificate from recognised central or state boards, some courses may require 75% in that subject area, OR Completion of the Polytechnic / College of Technology Diploma (minimum 3 years in duration)

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS: Academic 6.0 or 6.5 This must include a minimum of 5.5 in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
• PTE: 56 (51) - 62(58).
