About Postgraduate Certificate In Applied Management in Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology

Take the first step towards a Masters qualification.

This programme is the first six months of the 18 month Master of Applied Management.

Complete the four compulsory courses from the Master, gain a Postgraduate Certificate qualification or go onto the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Management or Masters programme.

This programme consist of four compulsory courses, see Course content below for more details:

• Critical management issues
• Design thinking and innovation management
• Managing in a digital world
• Leadership and managing talent.

These courses are designed to give you a broad expertise in applied management. Recommended for people who are looking to pursue a career in management, or who are currently working in a management role and want to increase their skills.

Study full time over six months, or part-time. Courses are run on our Nelson campus or only through our NMIT Moodle online learning platform.

Courses

Critical Issues in Management

• To enable students to examine emerging trends and confidently debate complex and current managerial issues while seeing them from different perspectives, and to facilitate understanding of interests/priorities of various stakeholders.

Design Thinking and Innovative Entrepreneurship

• After this course students will be able to  integrate innovation and design thinking into multidisciplinary decision-making process and employ business strategies with an effective user-centred approach.  They will be able to develop product and services within the context of challenges such as inclusion, sustainability and diversity, and the drive to create successful and meaningful organisations.

Managing in a Digital World

• To enable students to operate effectively with technology-informed management.  Students will be assisted to formulate new opportunities and strategies, process innovation, and in applying various digital tools to improve management in marketing and communication. 

Leadership and Managing Talent

• The course aims to enable students to manage people, organisations and self to build sustainable competitive advantage for selected business/professional practice. Learners will develop skills to manage talent effectively and to create positive organisational culture, and to implement systems to support the cultural relevance, ethical and sustainable achievement of organisational goals in line with its values, vision and mission.

Academic qualification equivalents

• An undergraduate degree from an overseas tertiary institution, deemed by the New Zealand Qualifications 

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS          :          Academic score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6.0
• TOEFL        :          Score of 79 (with a writing score of 21)
• PTE             :          (Academic) score of 58
