This full-time M.Sc. in Nursing programme ( EQF Level 7) consists of a total of 90 ECTS conducted over three semesters. The programme is specifically designed for graduates of any Bachelor of Nursing degree to enable them to extend their nursing knowledge, competences and skills. In the first two semesters of the programme a student completes 60 ECTS across a number of study-units. These units embrace a blended approach to teaching and learning, comprising in-class sessions, online activity and self-directed commitment. In the third semester of the programme, a student pursues a research study leading to the writing up of a dissertation under the supervision of an academic supervisor/s appointed by the Faculty Board.
The Department of Nursing collaborates with other Departments and Faculties within the University of Malta and other entities overseas, thus securing an eclectic experience for students. The programme adopts a wide over-arching international approach to health and social care and the nursing profession. It therefore welcomes nurses who have pursued undergraduate studies locally or overseas, and who aspire to a professional career in any context locally or in the international arena.
Through the series of study-units and the dissertation, this programme aims at enhancing the professional role of the nurse as a clinician, an educator, a researcher and as an active player in the realms of academia, policy making, management and innovation. Despite the generic nature of the programme, individual students are encouraged and supported towards a tailored focus of their choice in the course of the programme, in an effort to suit their specific practice setting or interest. In view of this, the focus of the course work pertaining to the study-units in the programme and the dissertation studies are selected by the student.
