Bridging Course Overview

Target Audience:

Third-country nationals with a nursing qualification (minimum MQF Level 5).

Course Objectives:

Bridge cultural and ethical gaps between previous practices and Maltese hospital procedures.
Equip nurses with knowledge and skills to thrive in a multicultural healthcare environment.

Key Components:

Modular Theoretical Component (30 ECTS):
- Modules:
  - Medical and Surgical Care (12 ECTS)
  - Introduction to Elderly Care (6 ECTS)
  - Mental Health Disorders (6 ECTS)
  - Infection Control (6 ECTS)
- Focus on EU Directive 2013/55 and Maltese nursing standards.
Simulation Practices:
- Hands-on training in a controlled environment.
- Role-playing with simulated patients to integrate theory and practice.
Work Placement (11 ECTS):
- 330 hours in multidisciplinary teams across various clinical settings:
  - Medical Care
  - Surgical Care
  - Elderly Care
  - Mental Health Care
  - Primary Health and Community Care
  - Paediatrics and Maternity Service

Outcome:

Eligibility to apply for registration as first-level nurses with the Maltese Council of Nurses and Midwives.
