About BA (hons) In Finance And Investment in Waterford Institute of Technology

The BA (Hons) in Finance & Investment prorgamme is available for advanced entry to Year 3 only from suitably qualified students.

The programme is an academic degree dedicated to the development of financial services professionals. The course aims to develop financial skills through a course of analytical, numerical and financial modules as well as placing significant emphasis on professional skills – skills vital to the development of good financial professionals.

The programme focuses on areas such as investment policy & analysis, financial management, taxation, fund accounting, financial derivatives and econometrics, amongst others.

Mentoring is an important part of our students’ development potential and our students are mentored throughout the programme.  Students may apply to be ‘matched’ with experienced finance graduates who provide advice and support to ensure a smooth transition from student life to career professional.

BA (Hons) in Finance and Investment career opportunities

Finance graduates from WIT work in all sectors of the Financial Services Industry including Retail & Investment Banking, Fund Accounting and Fund administration with opportunities both Ireland and abroad. 

Follow on Study

While many enter the employment sector upon graduation, others pursue follow-on study.  Options available to BA (Honours) Finance & Investment graduates include:

• Master of Business in Economics & Finance WIT

• MSC in Global Financial Information Systems WIT

• Master of Business, or other equivalent masters courses in Ireland or abroad

Accreditation

The ACCA accounting qualification is a recognised and highly sought-after qualification in the Global Financial Services Industry.  The BA (Hons) Finance & Investment is accredited with the ACCA and our graduates have exemptions in six out of the nine ACCA Foundation Level Papers.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Completion of All India or State Board HSC (XII): 60% or higher in relevant subjects.

English language requirements (one of the below):

Engineering, Health Sciences & Science

• IELTS: 5.5 IELTS(minimum of 5 IELTS in each component)
• TOEFL: iBT 70 (min score of 15 in each  component) CBT 196 (min score of 15 in each component)
• PTE: 51 (minimum 46 in each component)

Business, Education & Humanities

• IELTS: 6.0 IELTS (minimum of 5 IELTS in each component)
• TOEFL: iBT 80 (min score of 15 in each component) CBT 213 (min score of 15 in each component)
• PTE: 55 (minimum 46 in each component)

Note: The international tuition fee will be refunded in full, in case the students don’t get their visa but the students need to show documentary evidence of the refusal to the international office.

These apartments are based on the Main Campus and give easy access to all WIT services and facilities to the students. The students need to deposit Euro 300 for booking room which is refundable towards the end of the license period.
