About Bsc Human Nutrition in University College Dublin

Nutrition – the interaction between food and health – is becoming increasingly important in society. This degree covers many aspects of nutritional sciences, from biochemistry to molecular and public health nutrition, and also includes topics such as nutrition communication and food regulatory affairs. Upon graduating you’ll be able to apply your knowledge to many different areas of the food and health industry.

The Human Nutrition Programme at UCD is accredited by the Association for Nutrition.

The early years focus on core sciences and general food and health modules, which build your knowledge of biological systems and their application to human nutrition.

Students spend an average of 40 hours a week attending lectures and tutorials, as well as participating in laboratory workshops and undertaking independent study.

A combination of end-of-semester written examinations and continuous assessment is used. In third and fourth year you will complete comprehensive research projects.

Graduates have found employment in:

• Nutrition research
• Health promotion
  
  You can also train as a public health nutritionist through further study and/or applied practice. Food and health have been identified as strategically significant in UCD. As such, development of internationally recognised research groups in food and health in UCD has resulted in a substantial increase in recruitment of PhD and MSc (Research) posts.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent (For most countries, the same academic preparation as is required for university entrance in that country is required for consideration. 
• Program-Specific Prerequisite courses completed at the senior level (e.g. Grade 12);

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS: An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version.
• TOEFL:  minimum score of 600 in the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT), with Test of Written English at 475 +. A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with a score of at least 20 in each section
• PTE: Minimum of 63 and at least 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section..
