About Management And Marketing (msc) in University College Cork

This course is designed for graduates who have taken no, or a very limited amount of management or marketing in their undergraduate degree. If you wish to pursue a career in management or marketing, or to focus on a specific strategic innovation, enterprise or marketing capability, the course is suitable for you. People from a variety of academic backgrounds, including science, arts, engineering, law and social science attend this course. It is also suitable for those with professional or academic qualifications like medicine or accounting. This unique programme places great emphasis on the creative and innovation aspects of management and marketing which are essential for business careers and for the development of a knowledge-based economy.

The MSc (Management and Marketing) is delivered using a combination of:

The MSc (Management and Marketing) programme is of 12 months, full-time duration and is divided into two parts:

In Part 1, from mid-September until early the following March, you will study a core selection of subjects in both management and marketing, and you can also choose from a range of elective subjects depending on which area you aim to specialise in.

Students will take two five-credit modules, Workplace Skills and Research Methods, in semesters one and two, to help prepare them for their work placement or dissertation, and for longer-term employment or further academic research. The key skills developed on these modules include how to:

  • make effective presentations
  • undertake in-depth research into both organisational and consumer behaviour 
  • work effectively in a team 
  • create, edit and manage online video content 
  • create persuasive CVs 
  • engage in job interviews with confidence 

These modules are delivered by a combination of academic staff and industry practitioners in the field, and avail of the most up-to-date techniques, with a strong applied focus.  One-to-one coaching and ‘mock’ interviews form a part of the Workplace Skills module. 

In Part II and from April until late August you will pursue either a five-month research internship or an industry-focused research/consultancy project in which you will apply and develop what you have learnt in Part I.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Applicants should have an honours degree in a related subject.
  • Indian applicants will normally be required to achieve a first class/first division mark in their undergraduate programme at a good institution of higher education in India. At the discretion of academic departments, students with degrees awarded by top universities such as the University of Mumbai, University of Delhi, University of Calcutta, and the University of Pune, may be accepted with high second class/high second division marks.
