This Higher Diploma aims to provide suitable candidates with the knowledge, competencies and skills necessary to work and succeed in the general insurance industry at a provider (insurer) and advisor (broker) level. The programme will provide students with expertise in the areas of Risk, Underwriting, Principles of Insurance, Financial Regulation, Ethics, Personal Lines Insurance, Commercial Insurance, Specialist Products and Claims.
What will I be able to do when I finish this course?
On completion of this programme, students will have knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry and have further developed their intellectual and practical skills via the analysis and evaluation of the insurance process. Graduates can seek employment in many types of businesses including international insurance, reinsurance and insurance broking firms, risk management departments of major corporations, investment and retail banks, regulatory authorities, climate change planning and many other fields.

This programme provides the necessary knowledge for those who wish to pursue the Professional Certificate in Insurance (APA) and the Professional Diploma in Insurance (CIP). Following the programme, students can also continue to pursue further qualifications as a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland (III). These opportunities include: a Management Diploma in Insurance (MDI), a CII Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) and a Fellowship of the CII (FCII).
The programme also provides an entry route to other postgraduate business related programmes up to and including Level 9 Masters programmes.
Exam information
Modules completed in Term 1 will, where applicable, be examined in early December 2018. Modules completed in Term 2 will, where applicable, be examined in May 2019.
