Pharmaceutics is the process of turning a chemical molecule into a medication to be used safely and effectively by patients. This new programme offers a solid foundation in chemistry and analytical science that will allow graduates to make a significant contribution to the pharmaceutical industry. The programme has been designed to meet the needs of the pharmaceutical industry and in consultation with industry experts, so students will graduate with core skills that are highly sought after. It has a strong focus on practical laboratory experience and employability, preparing students for careers in the pharmaceutical industry, and a academic or industrial research.
Students will become familiar with a range of analytical techniques including identification, validation, optimisation of small molecules and the importance of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Our extensive range of chemistry equipment allows performance of analysis techniques including electrochemical analysis; high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS). A highlight of the course is the completion of original research in an individual project. The programme also includes a 12-week work placement.
