About Welding & Fabrication Technician in St. Lawrence College

Overview

The program delivers welding technology at the technician level and prepares students for the demands of the welding industry. This market requires graduates with a higher level of theory combined with the practical skills needed to succeed in an industry with an evolving level of complexity.

Graduates of this two-year program are eligible to receive an Ontario College Diploma. They also receive the equivalent of all the in-school training necessary to meet the requirements of the provincially administered Welder ap­prenticeship program.

Students also have the opportunity to chal­lenge the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification in several different welding processes. This allows graduates to provide employers with proof of CWB certification.

Career Opportunities

Graduates are eligible for employment in the metal fabricating industry as well as in the manufacturing and repair sectors. The program also includes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and automated welding training.  These courses provide the student with the background required to pro­gram and operate automated plasma cutting equipment in preparation for working with current generation CAD equipment in an advanced fabricating environment.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
• All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
• Minimum 65% prerequisite average for six Grade 12U or 12M level courses including Grade 12 English at the U level
• Grade 11 Math at the C, U or M level - (Grade 12 MDM4U preferred)

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS test results required with a minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each section, for entry to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each section, for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
• PTE: Pearson Test of English Language scores of 55 or higher for entrance to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 60 for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
