About Marine Emergency Duties A2 in St. Lawrence College

Overview

This course covers hazards and emergencies that can be encountered and how you should respond. Topics include: the theory of combustion; the proper use of onboard firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliances; techniques that increase your chances of survival in and on the water; appropriate conduct in a search-and-rescue operation as either the rescuer or the rescued; maintenance and use of rescue equipment, flares, smoke floats, slings, nets, radios, etc.; and managing passengers and panic in the face of an emergency. The three day course includes hand-on experience in the pool, with firefighting equipment and flares.   • Medical Fitness Form
    All applicants are required to provide the College with one of the following: the Medial Fitness form provided here, a signed medical certificate or a note from your physician (please read the MED A2 Important Course Information document for fitness requirements. This documentation must be submitted prior to the course start. Applicants will not be permitted to participate in the practical training portion of this course without the appropriate medical documentation and will, therefore, not complete the course.

  • Parental Consent Form
    All applicants in the Marine Emergency Duty training course, under 18 years of age, are required to submit this form, completed and signed by their parent/guardian. This completed form must be submitted prior to the course start. Applicants will not be permitted to participate in the course if we do not receive this completed form.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
  • All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
  • Minimum 65% prerequisite average for six Grade 12U or 12M level courses including Grade 12 English at the U level
  • Grade 11 Math at the C, U or M level - (Grade 12 MDM4U preferred)

English language requirements (one of the below):

  • IELTS test results required with a minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each section, for entry to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each section, for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
  • PTE: Pearson Test of English Language scores of 55 or higher for entrance to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 60 for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
