About Human Resources in St. Lawrence College

Overview

This certificate provides basic skills in the major areas of personnel administration, human resources planning, job analysis, interviewing, compensation and benefits, personnel testing, performance appraisal, industrial relations and collective bargaining.

The college has worked closely with the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) in the development of the Human Resources program. The HRPA will grant credits towards the academic requirements of the professional designation of Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).  For more information on CHRP and HRPA, please visit their websites.

To obtain this certificate, student must successfully complete nine (9) compulsory courses.

For your convenience, some courses are offered both in-class and online.   Some online courses can be started at different times throughout the semester, just choose the course date that fits your schedule. 

• The demand for part-time courses has increased to the point that we recommend you register early to ensure your acceptance into the course.
• Online courses are easily identified by CS at the beginning of the course code (i.e. CSSE 65 Accounting Basics 1)
• Textbooks and additional materials may be required for these courses. YOU are responsible for purchasing your textbooks for all courses. Please make a note of your course code (CS##) and see the bottom of this page for book order procedure.

Highlights

Graduates from the program may find employment as human resources generalist, compensation consultant, human resources planner, labour relations advisor, employment equity coordinator, training and development officer, and employee relations consultant.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
• All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
• Minimum 65% prerequisite average for six Grade 12U or 12M level courses including Grade 12 English at the U level
• Grade 11 Math at the C, U or M level - (Grade 12 MDM4U preferred)

English language requirements (one of the below):

• ELTS test results required with a minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each section, for entry to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each section, for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
• PTE: Pearson Test of English Language scores of 55 or higher for entrance to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 60 for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.
