Train to become an aircraft maintenance technician and be responsible for the service and repair of all types of airplanes and helicopters — with the eventual opportunity to obtain your Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license.

Program description

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Technology program offers the student the knowledge and skills required to enter a career as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. Once employed in the aviation industry, students may work toward the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer “M” (AME) license. An Aircraft Maintenance Technician/Engineer is responsible for the servicing and repair of aircraft and aircraft components.

The program covers all the aspects of aircraft maintenance including general aviation, corporate, charter, transport category aircraft, and helicopters. This is a two-year diploma program and all classes are scheduled at the Art Smith Aero Centre for Training and Technology, located at the Calgary International Airport.

Some of the courses in this program are web based and will require the students to access information from the Internet. These courses are delivered in one of the two computer labs available at the Art Smith Aero Centre. Students are not required to purchase a laptop for this program.

Your career

Graduates find work as aircraft maintenance technicians leading to an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME)”M” license.  Upon successful program completion and achieving 70% or greater in all of the courses and a minimum of 95% program attendance, you will receive 18-months credit toward a mandatory 48-month work experience requirement from Transport Canada in order to obtain your AME license.

Academic qualification equivalents

• Completion of All India or State Board HSC (XII): 60% or higher in relevant subjects. 

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS   :    6.0 in each skill
• TOEFL :    Overall 80, (A minimum score of 20 in each category)
• PTE      :    A score of 53 in each section

SAIT Admission requirements and process

Admission at SAIT Polytechnic requires additional documents from international applicants. Application requirements for various programs are given below.

Selection CriteriaSAIT Polytechnic opens the admissions in the Fall Start and continues until the Spring start. Different programs have different time periods for their admission process.

• The application fee charged is 75.00 CAD once for each program enrolment.
• Percentage required in schools and the other major requirements are different for all courses:
  • A 65% record or a cumulative GPA of minimum 2.3 is required for the Bachelor’s of business administration.
  • Other courses require a minimum of 50%.
  • A common requirement in all the courses is the English proficiency.
  • Admission into the Institute is determined on the academic records.
  • Graduate employment rate in the institute is 94%
