About Justice in Norquest Collage

Overview

If you’re passionate about working in the community and supporting people through law and policy, prepare for an exciting and rewarding career in the field of justice.

This new program will introduce you to Alberta laws and policies and the complex socio-economic factors that influence crime.

By completing the electives, graduates will be prepared to explore a number of career options within a highly diverse occupational field.

Note: The Justice program is open to anyone who meets the admission requirements. However, prospective students should be aware that individuals with police records, criminal convictions, or charges pending may encounter barriers securing employment in some justice-related fields. These individuals also might be unable to participate in site or facilities visits, or in work-integrated learning opportunities. This may affect grading and academic performance in the Justice program. Applicants with further questions are encouraged to contact the program chair at justice@norquest.ca.

Career Potential

While policing and corrections are highly desirable occupations, the skills taught in this program would allow graduates to work in a variety of roles covering a wide spectrum of employment opportunities. There are many careers that a graduate of the Justice diploma program can pursue and many of these would be direct entry with a two-year diploma. Graduates with a two-year diploma can pursue positions in justice-related fields such as protective services and security; peace officers; case workers and community resources; police clerks and emergency services; and legal services.

Academic qualification equivalents

• 65% in Mathematics 20-1 or Mathematics 20-2 or equivalent, or 50% in Mathematics 30-1 or Mathematics 30-2 or equivalent

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS      :       Academic: 6; no section score below 5.5
• TOEFL    :       71

Application deadline: The international students whose study plans have been affected by COVID-19 can start their studies from Fall 2020 to Winter 2021 within the same program. The deferral deadline is July 15, 2020.

Students with english not as a first language must submit one of the following scores as proof of english proficiency:

Students not having minimum scores for demonstrating english proficiency can enroll in English as a Second Language (ESL) program by Norquest. Minimum score in Norquest’s ESL for admission eligibility varies with program.
