About Early Childhood Curriculum Studies in MacEwan University

Early childhood educators care for our youngest citizens and foster their growing sense of identity and well-being through play-based learning. As a Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum student, you learn about the unique curriculum needs for early childhood learning, with a focus on equity, social justice and advocacy. 

As a student in our program, you work closely with children in early childcare settings at MacEwan and in the community. Through field placements and a fourth-year internship, you connect theory to professional practice.

The first two years of the degree meet the certification requirements for Child Development Supervisor (Level 3) Certification through Alberta Children’s Services. You have the option to exit the program with a diploma after you complete the first two years of course work.

Welcome to the MacEwan Child Care Conference 2020. The planning committee is inspired by the great numbers of participants who continue to join us each year to participate and embrace opportunity for growth and learning in the field of early childhood.

This year will offer a collection of relevant and engaging sessions to regenerate, motivate and inspire you in your practice and relationships with children, families and co-educators. We hope your time with us will offer space for networking, considering new ideas, conversations and reflection. Continuing last year’s format, we are excited to share topics and information significant to the current Alberta early childhood context beginning with three featured speakers.

How today’s early childhood educators make the most of every moment

When that nine-month-old kisses herself in the mirror, she’s discovering her sense of self. When the almost-two-year-old opens that bottle for the first time, she is problem-solving and when that little boy beats the drum, he sees himself as a teacher.

Elevating the learning in those small moments is Jody’s job as curriculum facilitator at Terra Centre for Teen Parents.

“Children are mighty learners,” says Jody. “They are competent, resourceful and already have theories about the world and opinions on matters that affect them – we don’t always need to construct that knowledge for them.”

• Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 65 percent in high school courses

English language requirements (one of the below):

• IELTS      :       overall band score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each band.
• TOEFL    :       86 and a minimum score of 21 in each section.
• PTE         :       overall score of 59 and a minimum score of 56 in each band.
