About Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technician in Lambton College

Refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics install, maintain, repair and overhaul residential central air conditioning systems, commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and combined heating, ventilation and cooling systems. The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician Ontario College Diploma prepares graduates for entry level positions in Electrical, Refrigeration, Sheet Metal or Heating and Air Conditioning Industries. 

Curriculum follows the prescribed TSSA Gas Technician 3 and Gas Technician 2 syllabus, providing an opportunity for external certification. Graduates will also be eligible to write the external Refrigeration Handling Certification - Ozone Depletion Prevention. 

Employment Opportunities

Apprenticeship possibilities and job prospects are excellent, with above average wages and steady employment. Graduates find work in heating, air conditioning, sheet metal, electrical and refrigeration contracting firms. Other opportunities include petrochemical, building and facilities services, wholesale, distribution, parts and equipment manufacturing companies. The Labour Market Information from Ontario Job Futures shows that for the 2013-2017 period, employment opportunities for this NOC Code area are expected to be above average. This means that relative to the employment situation overall, there is a better likelihood of finding stable work in this occupation, and employment prospects are attractive or improving.

Career positions may include, but are not limited to: central air conditioning mechanic, commercial air conditioning mechanic, heating and cooling mechanic, commercial air conditioning mechanic, heating and cooling mechanic, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) mechanic, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic apprentice. 

Admission Requirements

• O.S.S.D. or equivalent with:
• Six level 4 courses from the U or M stream and an overall average of 70% minimum including:
• Grade 12 English U (minimum grade of 65% required).
• Grade 12 Mathematics (C, U, or M level)
• Grade 12 Biology U SBI4U (minimum combined average of 70% for chemistry and biology).
• Grade 12 Chemistry U SCH4U (minimum combined average of 70% for chemistry and biology).

English language requirements

• Proof of English Proficiency Test Scores.
• IELTS : 6.0
• TOEFL iBT: 69
