About R.p.n. Bridge To B.sc.n. in George Brown College

FULL DESCRIPTION

R.P.N. Bridge to B.Sc.N is a bridging program that offers Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) the knowledge and skills necessary to enter Trent University's Nursing degree program. Upon successful completion of this two-semester bridging course, students apply to enter Trent's Nursing degree program that is offered onsite at the state-of-the-art Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences located at the Waterfront Campus.

PROGRAM STANDARDS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Apply the following skills and competencies to facilitate professional accountability, collaboration, leadership, continuing competence and the practice of nursing:
    • communicate effectively verbally and in writing, using interpersonal skills to assume a leadership role on the clinical team;
    • demonstrate novice-level scholarly writing;
    • collaborate with the Interprofessional team;
    • integrate information standards, technology, and information literacy tools to facilitate both client care and professional self-development; and
    • demonstrate social responsibility and advocacy for individuals, families, groups and communities in various practice situations and settings
  • Examine the basic language and goal of research, and the implication of research findings for nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate holistic, patient/family-centred care across the lifespan and continuum of care in various practice situations and settings.
  • Apply theoretical knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving in a variety of increasingly complex health care practice situations.
  • Demonstrate safe, effective, ethical and culturally sensitive nursing care that meets the current College of Nurses’ Professional Standards for Registered Nurses.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Two- or three-year Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.

English language requirements (one of the below):

  • IELTS          :         6.0, minimum 5.5 in each skill band
  • TOEFL        :        80 (online) minimum 20 in each skill band
  • PTE             :         54, overall minimum 50 in each skill band
