About Graduate Certificate In Green Architecture in Algonquin College

This one-year Ontario Graduate Certificate program is an attractive option for those who want to improve the current global situation through advanced knowledge and application of sustainable building strategies. The field of Green Architecture is a natural result of global pressures on our environment and natural resources. Students enhance their knowledge of building design, technology and construction from previous education or experience.

Students are exposed to a specialized range of design strategies and technologies that reduce environmental impact, make buildings healthier and livable for people and achieve these goals in an economical way. Design factors which build on the students` existing knowledge base include sustainable site development, managing material resources, conservation of energy and water and improving interior environments. The curriculum includes courses in materials and methods designed to provide sustainable energy conservation improvements, reduce reliance on fossil fuels and harness the energy resources of the sun, wind and water. Working in teams, students apply their new knowledge to a sustainable design project.

Graduates are able to evaluate and analyze current practices in building design, and are well positioned to be considered for significant roles working on sustainable projects. Typically, graduates may find employment with architectural, engineering, design and construction firms, Green building consultants, government agencies and related disciplines.

As part of the regular curriculum, students complete the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) course: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Strategies and Green Associate (GA) Preparation course. This helps prepare them to write the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) LEED (GA) exam toward the LEED (GA) credential. (Students are responsible to arrange and pay for the exam separately if they so choose.)

Bachelors: No specific cutoff mentioned
