About Bachelor Of Arts In Literary Studies (warts1) in Charles Darwin University

The Bachelor of Arts provides graduates with the ability to understand and study human society, culture and the creative arts. This course develops high levels of written and oral communication and prepares graduates for a range of discipline pathways including research training at honours and postgraduate level. The Course is available for both external and internal modes of studies.

Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in a range of specializations providing graduates with distinctive qualifications that lead to interesting and rewarding careers; with the opportunity to gain employment in the public service sector; federal, state and Territory; private and industry sectors.

Building on the University's unique location in northern Australia, adjacent to Southeast Asia; employment opportunities also include government, land councils, museums, non-government agencies and the corporate sector, particularly where these organizations engage with central and northern Australia and Asia.

Course Structure

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 240 credit points (cp). All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

LITERARY STUDIES - Complete 60cp from the following units. At least 30cp at 300 levels must be passed to complete the Major:

LIT103 Creative Practice in a Digital Context

LIT104 Introduction to Australasian Literature

LIT203 Workshop in Creative Writing: Poetics (available from 2019)

LIT204 Workshop in Creative Writing: Fiction

LIT205 Guilty Reading: Topic in Popular Genres (available from 2019)

LIT302 Independent Study in Creative Practice (repeatable)

LIT303 Independent Study in Academic Research (repeatable)

LIT304 Advanced Creative Writing

Majors:

Students are required to complete one of the following three (3) options.

Option 1: Single Major

Complete (at least) 60cp meeting all the requirements from only ONE of the Majors outlined below (not applicable for the Extended Major). At least 30cp at 300 level must be passed to complete a Major.

Option 2: Double Major

Complete 60cp meeting all the requirements from ONE of the Majors outlined below, AND 60cp meeting all the requirements from ONE OTHER of the Majors outlined below. At least 30cp at 300 level must be passed, in each, to complete the Double Major.

Option 3: Extended Major

Complete 120cp from ONE of the extended Majors below. At least 30cp at 300 level must be passed to complete the Extended Major.

The minimum academic entry requirements for admissions to undergraduate degree is the completion of a qualification deemed equivalent to Australian Year 12 by the University's qualification assessment references. Applicants may also be required to satisfy specific course requirements such as a minimum overall grade score or prerequisite knowledge.

IELTS Academic Module - A minimum overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; Australian Technology and Management College (ATMC) - Successful completion of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Students will be required to sit an exit test on completion and achieve a score equivalent to IELTS overall 6.0; Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) - A minimum overall score of 169 with no skill below 169; Common European Framework Certificate of English Proficiency - A minimum overall grade of B2. Navitas Academic English - A minimum overall pass and 55% in Academic English 3; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module - A minimum overall score of 50 with no score lower than 50; TOEFL Internet based Test (iBT) - A minimum overall score of 60 and a minimum writing score of 21.
