Pittsburg State University, sometimes known as PSU or Pitt State, is an open university. It began as the Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School in 1903 and was transformed into a full-time, four-year college in 1913 as 'Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg.' After changing its name to Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1959, it was granted university status in 1977 and given the name Pittsburg State University.

The university, which is located in Pittsburg, Kansas, educates approximately 7,400 students. The university is situated on around 223 acres of land. The university campus is home to the largest academic building in Kansas that offers a sophisticated technology programme, the magnificent Kansas Technology Center. A performance hall, theatre, spectacular lobby, art gallery, reception hall, and multi-use practise area for huge musical ensembles are also available at the university. Aside from that, the institution operates the Kansas City Metro Center Campus, which is located in the city's metro area. A variety of bachelor's and master's degree programmes are available on campus. Salina Area Technical College now offers two other degree programmes.
